Rachel"When I first relocated to Denbigh, my life was all over the place I had two children and I was in a relationship that had become toxic and that had broken down which affected my confidence and self-esteem.
I suffered from depression and anxiety because of my home situation and it became hard for me to leave the house. The Denbigh Youth Project helped me a lot in many areas in my life, they helped find me suitable accommodation for me and my children and also helped me get into college to further my education. The Youth Project also helped build my confidence and self-esteem thanks to the relationships I built with the members that offer support and guidance. I am now on my way to finding a job in the field I wanted and I also help out with the Denbigh Youth Project by volunteering in my spare time, this is my way of saying thank you to everyone at the project for all the help they gave me." |
Phil
"My name is Phil, I am 21 years of age and I live in Denbigh. Before coming to Denbigh Youth Project, I was sitting at home all day, feeling isolated and under pressure to try and find work. I was not sleeping well and had very limited money.
When I first started working with Denbigh Youth Project, they worked with me at a pace that I felt comfortable with, they supported me to try different courses and things, and helped resolve my housing, benefits and other problems. I then gained the confidence to attend mainstream college and now employment. I still pop in to see the Denbigh Youth Project staff, just for reassurance or if I am feeling low or unsure about something." |
Katie"I was 14 and in trouble at school a lot, I was getting bullied so I stayed away when I got the chance, hanging around town, I even got caught shop lifting one time. I was always having arguments at home especially with my Mum, she split with my Dad last year and I don’t get on with her new partner at all, in the end it was hard to talk without us shouting at each other.
My Mum contacted the Denbigh Youth Project and they came to talk to us, at first I wasn’t keen but they have really helped. They listened to me and I felt they understood what I was going through. They were able to support me by talking to the school and offering family mediation and I’m back in lessons now getting ready to do my exams. They also helped my Mum, she’s had the chance to go on some parenting courses and things have really calmed down at home now." |
